The Biggest Announcements at CES 2013

ces-2013The international CES always makes January a more interesting month, and sets the pace for the kind of innovative year it will be. The mobile industry was somewhat hushed this year, in contrast to other years, but that’s probably because of the kind of success that was recorded in the year passed. Below are some of the announcements made at the show.

RIM is looking to recover its lost glory by bringing Blackberry 10 touchscreen phones. When Android brought all that business capabilities, RIM faced a challenge as its niche had been invaded. Years later, and the company has been struggling to capture the attention of its once loyal crowd with its new offering in the Blackberry 10.

Samsung’s smartphone announcement was the SII Plus, which hopes to capitalize on the success of the SII. Sony was represented with the Sony Xperia Z which is their most powerful phone yet. It’s no curve design is inspiring, and its quad-core power should keep it abreast with other industry greats.

Nvidia has promised an interesting year for avid gamers with Project Shield. It promises a better handheld game experience, and a gaming platform based on Android.

The TV end has been kept alive by Samsung and Panasonic mostly. Samsung unveiled multi-views TVs, while Panasonic has announced a new range of Smart HDTVs that offer more revolutionary features and keep you more connected.

These were some of the headliners, but then again that’s entirely dependent on what products you mostly look forward to. Still, in their respective categories, these were some of the biggest announcements.
