Apple’s Budget iPhone Mini- Addressing the Speculations

iphoneminiEvery year is marked with its own unique speculations about the devices that we are likely to see in the market in the near future. This time, the rumours are from Apple, and they indicate that an iPhone mini is in the works. But just how much sense does this move make?

Apple has established itself as the dominant force in the high end of the market. With the iPhone 5 doing so well, and being named by TIME  as the 2012 gadget of the year, it comes as a big surprise why the company would want to go against all tradition and play in the budget market. The reasons to do so are practical though. Considering that almost all iPhone buyers are on postpaid plans or contracts, a point of saturation is probably going to be reached, and this may hinder further growth for the company. Perhaps this is the inspiration behind the iPhone mini, as it would appeal to prepaid users, as the phone would be priced just right for them to afford.

If recent trends are anything to go by, the price of the iPhone mini, should it ever be released, is that it’s not going to be as low as people are tempted to think. The iPad mini was meant to be a cheaper iPad, but it costs more than other 10” tabs.

Apple have not confirmed nor denied any iPhone mini rumours so far, though it is unlikely that the company will think of releasing the device any time this year.
